It is clear that she promotes student success and that her students appreciate her expertise, approachability and accessibility. Also Delane is an excellent collaborator and communicates well with others. She takes all subject matter within the broad field of anthropology with zest. MARY SLOAN

Mary Sloan is always willing to go that extra mile to help her students in her classes.  Not only is she very active in her classes, she also encourages her students in her communication throughout her courses.  Mary is a true model of how to build a student’s confidence while explaining how to improve and grow in their learning.  She truly believes in her students and in return the students start to believe in themselves.  Here is a student’s testimony to this…  My professor was the best professor I’ve had in the last 3-4 years of online schooling I’ve done. She was extremely prompt in all grades and responses. Any questions that myself or other students had she immediately saw it as a teaching opportunity. Additionally, she always helped us with discussions when working through our math solutions and explained how to properly or better work the problems out and why they were correct or incorrect as is. Best teacher! She's more than a keeper!   Not only does Mary put forth additional effort in her classes, she takes her Math for Clinical Calculations course personally.  Always willing to take time to help out with course development.  Gathering information from the other Math instructors to design a course that is both beneficial for the student and prime in enhancing the knowledge of students pursuing a degree in the health disciplines.  In the course that Mary willingly accepted the position of SME, she not only updated the course for the new text edition, but also went far beyond her contract to implement changes that would assure quality in the course.

My nominee is Nathan Wadman. He is innovative and dedicated. His students say his experience shows in the classroom and that he is great at bringing current thinking in networking into the class. He is attentive to his students and the guidelines for best practices. He brings outside insights from his work environment to his teaching and constantly hones his skills as a subject matter knowledge.

JEFF WEIDE

He is meticulous (as befits an Excel instructor!) in making sure that he deals with students with integrity. He has done excellent work in course development, teaching, and even mentoring other newer instructors at CCCOnline.

ERIK RICHTER

Erik is a stand-out instructor in the accounting program at CCCOnline. He is professional and responsive to his students and always looking for a better way to help them master the course competencies.
In the past year, Erik has significantly improved two of our accounting courses by moving to a new publisher and textbook, ultimately culminating in a total digital integration of both classes in the fall of 2016. Erik has taken a leadership role in this process, developing strong relationships with the publishing staff and being flexible and responsive to the instructional design and academic technology teams during this process. Erik has also voluntarily accepted the lead instructor role for these two accounting classes and he mentors other instructors when they are teaching either class, making himself available to assist his peers in any way he can.
These are just a few of the reasons that I nominate Erik Richter for the Instructional Excellence Award for 2016.

DR. EDEN HAYWOOD-BIRD

My nomination is for Dr. Eden Haywood-Bird. Eden is an integral part of the Early Childhood Education instructor team. She is an exemplar among the instructors in her student-focused instruction and contributions to the quality of the program. While working with CCCOnline, she also served as the department chair for ECE/EDU. In that role, she formed strategic partnerships that fostered the credibility of our program. It is in this context that I nominate Dr. Haywood-Bird from the department of early childhood education (ECE) and education (EDU).

LIBERAL ARTS & HUMANITIES

BEN TRUITT

The Arts and Humanities Department would like to nominate Ben Truitt for the 2016 Instructor Excellence Award. Having been with CCCO since 2009 and having taught all of the humanities courses and most of the philosophy courses, Ben’s teaching skill set is diverse and uncommon. Not only is he an amazing teacher with a special willingness to accept any academic challenges, including being a subject matter expert and pilot instructor for new courses, but Ben does so with high integrity and an unfailingly positive attitude. It is for these reasons and others that Ben has become something of a teaching legend at CCCO and was an obvious choice for the Instructor Excellence Award. Thank you for everything that you do, Ben!

Stephanie more than meets CCCS’ Academic Mission of high quality instruction and innovation demonstrating integrity, quality, and collaboration in everything she does.

JUDY MEZA

I nominate Judy Meza for the Teaching Excellence Award. She is an outstanding instructor who always goes well beyond for her students and for other instructors. Judy has consistently followed the best practices guidelines in her classes. Therefore, she has consistently received high ratings from her students and on her yearly evaluations. She also brings outside insights to her teaching and constantly hones her skills and her subject matter knowledge. Judy created the template that has made Spanish 112 a highly successful course that has paired well with Spanish 111. She created more dynamic discussions in which the students can practice the target language in a more robust and yet supportive fashion. She has also worked tirelessly on improving the oral component of the course so that it is more than comparable to the traditional classroom experience. She is presently working on a revision that will keep the strengths that she incorporated in her original course while paralleling the newly revised Spanish 111. This revision is the first step in creating a course that will be submitted as a Quality Matters course. Judy conducts all of her work, within the course as well as extra requests, in a professional and thorough manner, well ahead of schedule; that is, the ideal instructor.
